Clinton Call for Diplomatic Measures against Iran

Former US President Bill Clinton called for a continued diplomatic effort with Iran, before attacking its nuclear facilities. Clinton, lecturing at the University of Kansas, avoided criticizing President Bush`s policy, but did say "We may not have to go to war, and we may not have a disaster," he told about 9,000 gathered at Kansas State University. "You need to talk to everybody before you bomb them. In other words, if you`re going to fight with somebody ? I don`t care what you don`t have in common ? you should talk first." According to him, Sanctions against Iran will be more effective than commonly thought and that two-thirds of the country`s population are interested in a more moderate government.

The Whitehouse is trying to initiate further sanctions against Iran, due to its continued refusal to cease enrichment of uranium, after the US Security Council imposed sanctions, last December. According to resolution 1737, all UN-member countries are to cease supplying Iran with raw materials, equipment and technology, which could contribute to Iran`s uranium enriching program, activities related to heavy water, as well as, research and development of ballistic missiles. Additionally, mediation and funding of projects related to these programs.

As an example of the success of the diplomatic effort, Clinton gave the North Korean nuclear disarmament agreement. Clinton spoke to a crowd of 9 thousand listeners, which was focused on many domestic issues, including the need for improvement in the US economy and medical services. The ex-President avoided talking about his wife, Hillary`s, presidential race.
