English Woman Gives Birth to Triplets from Two Separate Wombs
In a case that was never before seen in medical history, a young English woman has given birth to triplets from a pregnancy that took place in two separate wombs. The baby girls ? two identical from one womb and a third from a different womb ? were born in September at Southmead Hospital in Bristol in the United Kingdom. Doctors say that although it is not rare for women to have two or partially joined wombs, there has never been a recorded case of triplets been delivered from two wombs.
For reasons not yet disclosed, the three girls were born by Caesarean section seven weeks before their official due date. The fact that their mother, Hannah Kersey, is particularly young ? only 23 years old ? may explain why she was able to conceive the children all in one month and carry them to a reasonable term of pregnancy. Doctors say that any multiple pregnancy is considered risky and this case was much more problematic due to the complexities of carrying the babies in two separate wombs.
Kersey and her partner, Mick Faulkner, were reportedly extremely happy about the birth of their daughters. "They are three lovely and incredible children, all with very different personalities," Kersey told the BBC. Although the couple certainly have some trying years ahead of them as they bring up three children of the same age, they probably realize how blessed they really are to have a happy ending to such a rare occurrence.
