Bangladesh Bank Cracks Down on Terror Financing
Bangladesh`s central bank, the Bangladesh Bank, has asked all the banks and financial institutions of the country to submit reports on any financial transactions connected with Abd Al Hamid Sulaiman Al Mujilor any of his known aliases due to his alleged link with the al-Qaeda Islamist terrorist network. The central bank issued the directive on Wednesday asking chief executives of all scheduled banks and non-banking financial institutions (NBFIs) to submit the reports to the Anti-Money Laundering Department of the Bangladesh Bank by October 9, 2006.
In its directive, the Bangladesh Bank noted that Abd Al Hamid Sulaiman Al Mujil, who was the executive director of the International Islamic Relief Organization (IIRO), had been included in a recently updated sanctions list of the United Nations Security Council.
Pursuant to the paragraph six of UNSC Resolution 1267, the Security Council established oversees implementation, by states, of any economic sanctions decided upon by the Security Council related to individuals and/or entities belonging/related to the Taliban, Saudi terror leader Osama bin Laden and his al-Qaeda organization. The Security Council maintains a list of individuals and entities for this purpose.
