Junta in Burma Promises to Crush Any Democracy Movements
The ruling military in has cautioned that it will not hesitate to abolish any unrest stemming from a United Nations decision to place the country on the Security Council`s formal agenda. "After trying to put Myanmar on UN Security Council`s agenda, internal and external destructive elements are plotting to incite unrest in the country," local newspapers reported. "Hence, the State, the People and the the military will crush them with patriotism and Union Spirit."
The propagandists pointed to members of opposition groups, including jailed democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi`s National League for Democracy (NLD) party ,for organizing forces to encourage an uprising. "They are trying to mobilize and train some monks, university students and workers as their hardliners to cause unrest and commit terrorist acts," the papers said.
An NLD spokesman denied the accusations and said they are working peacefully. "We have to deny that some NLD members are participating in this committee. It might be some ex-members of so-called NLD who were removed as they didn`t accept our guidance," she told reporters. "For us, we just want dialogue with the authorities. We never encourage confrontation."
