Teens Break into Key U.S. Base

A major security breach in the United States has left authorities in Florida wondering how really secure the home for many of America`s military operations in the War on Terror is. Two teens evaded police and smashed through a barrier to gain entry into MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida, home to U.S. Central Command. Tampa police said Davaraye Mungin, 16, and Damia Bowie, 16, rammed two police cruisers after evading a speeding trap.

The pair faces charges of grand theft auto, fleeing law enforcement, resisting arrest with violence and aggravated assault on a policeman. The two teens may also face federal charges. After evading the speed trap, they "blasted through the gate at the base," before being eventually apprehended.

Air Force public affairs spokesman Lt. Larry van der Oord told reporters that, "the thing to remember is that this is an isolated incident. The suspects were apprehended very quickly once they made their way into the base and taken into custody." However, the incident has sparked serious questions over how the facility - responsible for U.S. military operations in the Horn of Africa, Middle East and Central Asia - could be so easily breached.
