Muslims Not Satisfied with Catholic Pope
As the world continues to observe the fallout from Pope Benedict XVI?s speech in Germany last week, calls are rising within the West for people to stand up to the bullying of Muslims. Using the argument that those Muslims who are most vehemently condemning the pope are doing so in countries or with the mentality advocating extreme limitations on freedom of speech and worship, angry Jews and Christians are noting that the West is not bound by the laws of shari?a ? Islamic religious law ? and therefore people have the right to speak their minds.
An apology of sorts by Benedict did not serve to assuage the egos of Muslims, with even the Council of Islamic Organization of Greater Chicago criticizing the pope, who himself indirectly criticized Islam by quoting from a 14th century CE discussion between a Byzantine Emperor and a Persian Muslim colleague of the time.
There have been threats by Muslim terrorist groups to attack Catholic figures with suicide bombs. After the shooting of a nun in Somalia, an Islamic cleric there said that anyone who speaks badly of the Prophet Mohammed should be killed. Even so, there are reports that the worldwide Islamic community is split, with some accepting the regret Benedict expressed that his speech was taken out of context, and others still calling for his head.
