Legendary Argentine President`s Remains to be Moved
In South America, plans are reportedly under way to move the body of former Argentinian President Juan Peron. Officials in Argentina are said to be planning to move the late president`s coffin first for a ceremonial Mass to be held in his memory, and following that Peron will be reburied in a newly constructed mausoleum. Located about 35 miles outside of Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, it is the hope of Juan Peron`s family that one day the body of his former wife Eva will join him at the new mausoleum.
Eva Peron, who died in 1952 and was the subject of a movie starring pop queen Madonna some years ago, currently lies in her family`s plot, which is located in another Buenos Aires cemetery. 32 years after his death, Juan Peron is still popular in the country, with the political party he founded still dominating the country`s politics. His remaining family members support the move of Peron`s remains to a new location.
Peron`s body was disinterred once before, in the late 1980s, when Argentine authorities discovered that grave robbers had broken into the current mausoleum. In that horrific incident, the thieves cut off Peron`s hands and took them. At the moment, Peron currently lies next to his mother, father, brother and niece. Both Juan and Eva Peron`s gravesites are popular tourist attractions in the country.
