Texas Police Chase Ends with Crash

Police from Grapevine, Irving and Dallas, Texas were involved in a car chase that began at 8:45 a.m. and ended at about 10:15 a.m. local time, when police finally arrested the driver. A suspect was arrested after he led police on the wild car chase. There was no immediate official reason given for why the chase began, though according to local television stations, the Grapevine Police Department said officers responded to a mental health call.

When local police approached the suspect, he attempted to run over another officer. Thus began the pursuit, which made its way onto Interstate 30, then to Interstate 35, then to State Highway 183 and finally State Highway 114, ending only when the driver crashed into an eighteen-wheeler truck at a gas station in Roanoke, Texas.

Local Fox affiliates reported that the suspect avoided running over at least two sets of spike strips during the chase, and once apprehended was transported by CareFlight helicopter to Parkland Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries suffered as law-enforcement officers pulled him out of his car. Car chases tend to receive heavy coverage in both local media and national media.
