Tony Blair Calls for Talks with Iran and Syria
Tony Blair, the British Prime Minister has sent a message Monday urging the international community to begin talks with Iran and Syria in attempt to improve conditions in the Middle East. Blair trying to defend his close relationship with the current American administration said that Iran and Syria have a key role in the process of bringing peace to the Middle East and especially to Iraq.
In the US voices to engage Syria and Iran which have been shunned by the west for over a year for aiding and abiding Islamic terrorists as well as the Iranian nuclear program which is cause for much unrest the world over and especially in the Middle East, have become more popular since the outcome of the US midterm elections.
The British Defense Minister said Sunday that four British Soldiers have been killed and 3 have been injured in an attack on a patrol boat in a waterway near Basra in southern Iraq. Blair has repeatedly said that the UK will not pull its troops from Iraq until Iraqi forces are able to take control of the situation. The US policies are currently unclear but are also expected to gradually replace US soldiers with Iraqis. This may only be possible with the supports of neighboring Syria and Iran, who have a strong influence on the forces fighting the US and the UK in Iraq. An agreement with Iran and Syria can gradually transform the region into a region of cooperation and eventually lasting peace.
