American Midterm Election Results Hailed Around the World

People from around the world are celebrating the turn American politics took at the recent US midterm election. It seems that everyone from politicians in Kuala Lumpur to South American sheepherders are happy if not ecstatic with the change. Many people holding liberal sentiment are hopping that the United States take a turn to leading the world in a more liberal direction. This may affect the United States` foreign policies, policies on drugs, stem cell research and abortion rates.

Many citizens around the world feel that the Democratic takeover may put President Bush, who many see as a "cowboy", back in place. It seems that the president`s plans to spread democracy throughout the world. The American public has spoken and is not willing to pay the price. There is still some worry that the shift in power may render Bush a lame-duck president holding back progress in many fields of international cooperation such as trade agreements etc.

Another concern is a quick retreat from blood-drenched Iraq, which is feared to even increase the carnage. This in fact is not likely as the Democratic Party has not decided on its plans and timetables for a withdrawal from Iraq. So that at least the near future doesn`t seem to hold any new news for Iraq. Also it seems that the American public has not become more liberal but rather that the election`s outcome is more of a outcry against the President`s policies so that is not clear if the new House of Representatives will lead America and indeed the world in a new direction.
