60 People Arrested in Senegal Over Migrant Smuggle
Sixty traffickers who were trying to smuggle 1,500 migrants to Spain`s Canary Islands were arrested by Senegal`s navy. Navy Captain Jean-Baptiste Faye stated that the people were traveling in 19 wooden boats. He explained that the reason for more and more migrants leaving from Senegal has to do with the closing of routes through Morocco and Mauritania.
About 7,000 migrants have landed at the Canary Islands in 2006. BBC News reports Spanish Ambassador Miguel Angel Fernandez Mazarambroz has been touring West Africa in an effort to stem the flow of migrants. He is trying to convince African governments to sign agreements making it easier to deport migrants.
Migrants and illegal immigrants are a problem around the world in many nation`s of the world. Authorities are constantly trying to solve this problem and stop illegal aliens from crossing their borders. Senegal is one such example.
