Alaska Pipeline Repair Investigated
The Environmental Protection Agency, in conjunction with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, are investigating reports of improper repairs made by employees of oil companies that own the transatlantic Pipeline. The U.S. Federal Authorities hope to get to the bottom of this situation soon.
An agency spokeswoman says she had been questioned by the FBI and EPA but wasn`t aware of any wrongdoing after reviewing complaints of faulty welds from repair work. The allegations come from an Alyeska employee working on the project who was not named.
The 800-mile pipeline is run by Alyeska Pipeline Service Co, formed by BP Plc, Exxon Mobil Corp. and ConocoPhillips, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday. U.S. federal authorities are investigating whether the company tampered with records to show the repairs were done correctly.
