Violence Protested by Demonstrators
Violence is becoming more prevalent around the world. As nations grow and different political, religious and economic issues rise, a surge of violence, many times gang violence, can occur.
Hundreds of Brazilians recently protested a surge of gang violence. Sunday, declared a `Day of National Dignity` by demonstrators, had many protestors gathered in Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and other major cities to protest the failure of politicians to crack down on organized crime.
Eighteen prison inmates and four bystanders died in violence in a spree of attacks that began ten days ago. The first capital command gang killed 41 police officers and prison guards and burned dozens of city buses. Over the following days, police struck back, killing 109 suspected criminals, many in unclear circumstances.
