Shooting at VA Police Station Kills One

One officer was killed and two others injured after an 18 year old gunman opened fire outside a Virginia police station on Monday. Police Chief David Rorher identified the single victim as a female detective, who was with the Fairfax County Police Department for nine years. Police spokeswoman Mary Ann Jennings said, "It`s going to be unraveling slowly. We don`t have a clue at this point. I`m sure some of the investigators are starting to put that together."

As of press time, a second officer was listed in serious condition, having undergone surgery late Monday. A third police officer was treated for minor injuries, either from a ricocheting bullet or flying glass. The lone gunman opened fire in the rear parking lot of the Sully District Station in suburban Washington, D.C.

Roads were blocked and neighboring buildings were locked down for hours as police searched for possible additional suspects. Police later narrowed down the suspect to one gunman. They did not disclose the suspect`s name or describe a possible motive, but did note that it was not known whether the gunman died of a self-inflicted wound or in a crossfire with police.
