Violence and Terror as Usual in Iraq

Iraq saw, as usual, a violent weekend, with three car bombings across the country, and brutal discoveries of dead bodies in Baghdad. A car bomb shattered the peace in Karbala, killing at least five people, and wounding over a dozen more. Sectarian violence may be to blame for the recent attack on the Shiite holy city, which is 50 miles south of the capital, Baghdad.

Two car bombs exploded in Baghdad over the weekend, claiming nine more victims. In Baghdad, a car bomb targeted an Iraqi army base, killing eight people and wounding fifteen more. A second attack struck a government agricultural building, claiming one life and wounding five others, as police secure the area.

According to officials, police have also been making gruesome discoveries, finding 43 bodies in the past 24 hours. Police confirm that all of the bodies had gunshot wounds to the head. An accident over the weekend in the southern Iraqi city of Basra involving a UK military helicopter crash and subsequent mob attack on British troops also resulted in a loss of life.
