Trapped Miners Down Under Get Supplies
It?s probably the best meal they?ve ever had. Two Australian gold miners have been trapped more than a half mile below ground for the past week. Rescuers located them Sunday and were stunned that they were not only alive, but uninjured.
They`ve been trapped in a cramped cage since a cave-in last Tuesday that killed a co-worker.Rescuers passed the miners their first food today through a four-inch diameter pipe -- cookies and water. The mine manager says they`ve also been given vitamin pills and protein drink.
When rescuers lowered a microphone through a tiny hole to them Sunday, the miners first words were, to the effect of, it`s "cold and cramped in here. Get us out." The digging is proceeding very carefully, and the manager says it could take two more days to get them out.
