Prosecution Drops Charges Against Teacher
A former Tampa teacher sentenced to three years of house arrest for engaging in sexual activity with her 14-year-old male student in one Florida county - won`t face charges in another. Debra Lafave, who was sentenced in Hillsborough County, was spared possible prison through the deal.
The reason for this is that prosecutors for Marion County, Florida decided to drop charges on the teacher on Tuesday after a judge rejected a plea deal that would have kept Lafave out of prison.
Marion County Circuit Judge Hale Stancil wasn?t won over by the argument, and says the lack of prison time for Lafave under the proposed plea deal "shocks the conscience of this court." Prosecutors, defense attorneys and the victim`s mother Stancil to accept the deal so the victim wouldn`t have to testify, however he refused. A psychiatrist who examined the boy told the Stancil in previous discussions that the boy suffered extreme anxiety from the media coverage of the case.
