World Marks Third Anniversary Of Iraq War Start
Thousands of anti-war protesters marched in Australia, Turkey and Asian countries at the start of global demonstrations planned across the globe Saturday to mark the third anniversary of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq. Demonstrations are planned across Europe, with police in London shutting down the heart of the capital`s shopping and theater district ahead of a demonstration which organizers said would be attended by up to 100,000 people.
Protesters marched through central Sydney, Australia over the weekend, chanting "End the war now" and "Troops out of Iraq". Many campaigners waved placards branding President Bush the "World`s No. 1 Terrorist", expressing concerns that Iran could be the next country to face invasion. Because, as we all know, Iran has never stated an intention to destroy another country. Oh wait, it has: Israel. But what does Israel matter to these people, who are most likely anti-Semites (war is okay only when it is Jews that are doing the dying).
The World Peace Now organization organized a rally in Tokyo, capital of the country that bombed Pearl Harbor in 1941, where about 2,000 people gathered in a downtown park, carrying signs saying "Stop the Occupation". In Muslim Turkey, thousands gathered in Istanbul and others were planned in the cities of Izmir, Trabzon and the capital, Ankara. Several protests are also planned in Spanish cities, including Madrid and Barcelona. Marches, demonstrations and rallies are planned in cities throughout the United States as well. This, while Iraq`s first democratically elected parliament met in Baghdad last week.
