Flooding Throughout U.S. East Coast

The U.S. East Coast suffered from heavy rains over the weekend, and flooding affected homeowners and motorists in the states of Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Delaware. In Maryland?s Dorchester and Caroline counties, there were reports of four to five feet of water in some areas. A large section of Route 307 has been washed away, down to the gravel, and Dorchester County had, as of press time, at least twenty roads closed. According to Sgt. Russell Newell of the Maryland State Police, ?It is quite a serious situation.?

In western Pennsylvania, a state of emergency was declared in Armstrong County after flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall flooded hundreds of basements in Ford City and forced evacuations of residents from nearby areas. And in Seaford, Delaware, shoppers and drivers got more than they bargained for when a Wal-Mart shopping center parking lot flooded, cars were seen to be floating within it. In Seaford, fifteen people were evacuated from their homes due to the flooding in the area.

Much of the southeastern U.S. also suffered from heavy rains, while west of the Mississippi River rains were more scattered, and the Northern Plains of the United States were blessed with mostly clear skies. However, in the southwest clear skies contributed to the ongoing heat wave that was only intermittently broken by scattered showers.
