Peruvian Presidnet Alan Garcia Back in Office
The previous president of Peru Alan Garcia has made it back into office and has defeated Ollanta Humala. In total, Garcia won by a margin of 55% to 44% against his main rival Ollanta Humala. This is a return to office for Garcia who was once president in Peru`s past.
The victory for was considered rare since his previous history as president was not very successful. Garcia`s victory came as a surprise as his name had been equated with political disasters including hyperinflation and food shortages.
The Washington Post says Garcia`s supporters argue he has learned from the mistakes of his 1985-1990 government and has shown great firmness in coming back from nine years in self-imposed exile and a narrow loss in the 2001 presidential election.
