U.S. Oil Demand Impacts Canada


The US consumes more oil per capita then any other country in the world and this huge demand for oil is starting to take an environmental toll on Canada to the north. In the search for oil in water from rivers and natural gas from wells speficial hemicals that are harmful to the environment have been impacting Canada and adding to global warming.



Digging for oil has via new technology and an unquenched U.S. thirst for the fuel is also having a major affect on the Canadian environment. The expansion has presented ecological problems that experts thought they would be able to fix over a long period of time.



Elsie Fabian is an elder in a native Indian community along the Athabasca River in Canada had this to say: "The river used to be blue. Now it`s brown. Nobody can fish or drink from it. The air is bad. This has all happened so fast. It`s terrible. We`re surrounded by the mines."
