Did Some Lebanese Aid IDF in Assault on Town?
In reports that haven`t been confirmed, there are stories emerging that many of those who chose to remain in the town of Bint Jbeil in southern Lebanon as Israeli forces advanced into the area willingly supplied Israeli troops with the locations of Hezbollah members holed up in the town, known as the "capital of Hezbollah" in southern Lebanon. Resident also supposedly helped IDF troops locate terrorist installations in the area as well. How this could occur, and still the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) lose so many troops in a single day, hasn`t been yet discussed.
While Bint Jbeil is popularly known as the Hezbollah "capital" of southern Lebanon as stated previously, most of its residents "see Hezbollah as having held them captive for years, using their village to fire rockets and plan attacks. They are eager to get Hezbollah out of their town," as mentioned in a comment attributed to an Israeli army source.
During Israel`s 18-year occupation of southern Lebanon that ended in 2000, the IDF and its South Lebanon Army (SLA) allies maintained positions in and around Bint Jbeil, and reportedly had amicable relations with many of the town`s residents. Meanwhile in related news, this past week, United Nations humanitarian aid chief Jan Egeland blasted Hezbollah terrorists for blending in with the civilian population and celebrating civilian Lebanese deaths.
