Pakistan Warns Against Incursion To Capture Terrorists
In a not-so-subtle warning to India in the wake of the recent terror attacks in the city of Mumbai, Pakistani officials have been adamant that they will not accept incursions by Indian security forces in pursuit of the sort of separatist-terrorists that Islamabad backs in the region of Kashmir. The attack on train cars in mid-July killed over 200, and was quickly blamed by officials in New Delhi on the Islamist terrorists funded by Pakistan. Pakistan and India have fought several wars over Kashmir.
"Nobody should have this wishful thinking that Pakistan will bear any kind of adventure inside its territory. No one is there who can take any punitive action against Pakistan, as its defense is in strong hands," President Pervez Musharraf said. "Nobody should be under any illusion or cast an evil eye at us or talk of punitive action."
Pakistani Foreign Office spokesman Tasnim Aslam also said, "Nobody should make this mistake. Pakistan will not allow hot pursuit into its territory. Pakistan wants to pursue the path of peace, wants peace process to resume and is ready to discuss all issues." Recalling India`s massing of troops along Pakistan`s borders in 2001 in response to attack on the Indian Parliament, Aslam noted that "Even then we had to return to the negotiations table, and that is the option before us now."
