U.S. President Calls Danish PM, Offers Support
U.S. President George W. Bush called Denmark`s prime minister on Tuesday to offer his support after Danish embassies and citizens across the Muslim world became targets of protestors. "I am happy to inform you that just a few minutes ago, President Bush called me to express support and solidarity with Denmark in the light of the violence against Danish and other diplomatic missions," said Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen.
"We agreed that the way ahead is through dialogue and tolerance, not violence," Rasmussen told a news conference. Muslims in the Mideast, Asia and Africa are protesting cartoons published in Denmark that poke fun at the Prophet Mohammed. One shows the prophet wearing a turban shaped like a bomb with a lit fuse.
Terrorists in Iraq have called for the killing of Danes and a boycott of goods from Denmark. In London, demonstrators held signs saying those who insulted Islam should be beheaded. Iran recently recalled its ambassador to Denmark and suspended trade with the country as well.
