Lost American Dad Found Frozen in Oregon Mountains

It was a tragic ending to a Thanksgiving holiday for the Kim family of the United States. Jim Kim, his wife Kati and their two young daughters, Penelope, 4, and Sabine, 7 months, were driving home from Portland to San Francisco when they took a wrong turn and got stuck in the snowy parts of the Oregon wilderness.

The family spent an incredible nine days in or near their car before Jim Kim decided that, in order to save his family, he would need to set out on foot to seek help. During the nine days, the parents survived on berries so that their meager rations of baby food and crackers could be divided between the two girls. When that food ran out, Kati breastfed both children to give them nourishment. Finally, when they could not hold out any longer, Jim decided to try finding help and promised to return if he did not find anyone.

Rescuers found Kati and her children after she, too, decided to set out on foot in search of her husband and help. She was spotted after she waved an umbrella in their direction. An intense manhunt began to find Jim Kim who had left a trail of items behind in so that he could be found. Unfortunately, his frozen body was found about 8 miles from the car ? a distance that rescuers say is amazing, considering the subzero temperatures and lack of suitable clothing or equipment.
