Tornado Devastates North London Neighborhood
Six people were injured and 150 houses were destroyed when a tornado ravaged several streets in northern London, tearing roofs atop of houses, leaving behind a path of destruction and ruin. One of those injured, was crucially injured in his head. Local weathermen said that a tornado in the region was not that uncommon but rather the amount of damage is quite out of the ordinary, especially considering the fact that the tornado only lasted less than a minute. Susan Powell, a BBC meteorologist, said: "To see a tornado is not that unusual - but the magnitude of the damage due to the one in north-west London is."
Witnesses told the press that the storm included strong rain and hail, shooting garbage and debris into the air: "I was in my living room and I heard a big crack of lightning and thunder, then as I went to the window I heard a sound which was like standing behind a jetliner. I could see a huge cloud rolling up the street, making this tremendous sound. I went to try to take a picture of it but a shower of debris smashed all the windows of my house," said Daniel Bidgood, who lives in the neighborhood.
London emergency services reported one man, in his late 50s, was treated for serious head trauma. Another 5 people were treated for relatively light injuries and post traumatic stress. The neighborhood was evacuated until the emergency services announce the area is once again inhabitable. City officials said that they have yet to estimate the damage left by the storm.
