UIC opposes the admission of peacekeepers to Somalia

The recent approval that UN has made of a peace force to be sent to Sothern Somalia has resulted in a very aggressive reaction from the side of the Islamist who control much of the region. The reaction of the Islamists was not to receive any peacekeepers that might be sent to Somalia. According to the opinion clearly demonstrated in the UN resolution the government of Somalia is very weak and that an African force should be sent to make the situation more stable.

The Union of Islamic Courts is opposed to the idea, according to their estimation the UIC has all the abilities to keep the stable and secure condition in Somalia and that there`s no need for troops to come into the country. The opposition to the idea of brining peacekeepers into the country is so forceful that a number of demonstrations and loud protests have been organized. Nevertheless, there are estimations that next week the government and the UIC will sit down to talk the situation over in Sudan.

Another difficult side of the story is the fact that UIC accuse the UN of trying to cover up the Ethiopian troops, and this raises a number of difficult issues, since the UIC has declared a so-called "Holy War" on Ethiopia. Even though UN clearly states in its resolution that the troops of all neighboring countries will not be sent to help the government of Somalia, the UIC still sees it as an attempt to decrease its authority by the troops of a rival country.
