China Reacts to Iranian Suggestions
A senior Chinese Foreign Ministry official said on Wednesday the Iranian nuclear issue could be resolved peacefully through diplomatic talks. The official, who asked not be named, said it is the best choice Iran has to take as well as all parties concerned. The statement of the Chinese official came a day after Iran`s top nuclear negotiator, Ali Larjani on Tuesday said his country is prepared to have "serious talks" to six world powers to end the standoff over Iran`s nuclear programs.
Larjani met with envoys from China, Britain, France, Russia, Germany and Switzerland in the Iranian capital of Tehran on Tuesday to discuss the Islamic Republic`s options. Larjani was quoted as saying, "Iran now is ready for serious talks with the six world powers from this Wednesday over the package."
China`s official news agency stated "China has always believed that seeking a peaceful resolution to the Iranian nuclear issue through diplomatic talks is the best choice (to solve the issue) and in the interests of all parties concerned. "We also hope that other parties concerned will remain calm and patient, show flexibility, stick to the orientation of peaceful resolution (of the issue) and create favorable conditions for resuming talks as soon as possible."
