Hizballah Says Will Not Disarm

A representative of terror group Hizballah in Iran has said that his organization will not disarm in keeping with UN Security Council Resolution 1701. In fact, he said that there is no requirement for their disarmament by the ceasefire agreement. "There will not be disarmament, the UN resolution has not demanded either," Abdullah Safieddine, Hizballah`s representative in Iran, told local media on Monday.

Safieddine`s comments came after Turkey refused to allow Syrian and Iranian planes to enter Lebanese airspace, for fear they were transporting weapons to the terrorist group. Turkey is a secular Muslim ally of Israel and the United States, and while Turkey did not support the U.S. war in Iraq, the military ties between Jerusalem, Ankara and Washington are strong.

Despite the assertions of Safieddine, Resolution 1701 calls for the disarmament of ALL armed groups in Lebanon, and prohibits any sales or supply or arms and related material to Lebanon except as authorized by its government. "God willing, we will have no problem. If anybody wants to resist they will seek to buy arms if need be," Safieddine said. Israel claims that Iran and Syria are still providing arms to the group it spent 34-days attempting to stop.
