Kenyans Mark World Migratory Bird Day
This week, children in Kenya along with performers and conservationists gathered to commemorate World Migratory Bird Day. This celebration was held in part to counterattack the recent negative effects of bird flu on migratory birds. Kenya`s great rift valley is famous for its flamingos, pelicans and storks.
Unfortunately, these birds are said to be at risk for bird flu. Numerous species of birds migrating from Asia to the northern hemisphere make a stop at this valley to enjoy freshwater ponds, dams and lakes, which are all breeding grounds for the avian flu virus.
Many conservationists report that some people destroy nests or end up cutting down trees due to fear of infected migratory birds perching on their property. World Migratory Bird Day, which usually includes bird walks and similar festive activities, was celebrated in 40 countries.
