Students Moving To Big Cities
There are reports that college graduates are moving to the big cities of America in pursuit of jobs and culture. The move, however, seems to be increasing the price of homes. A survey conducted by AP finds that though many cities report a decreasing population over the past 30 years almost all cities have more college graduates.
This study illustrates a revival for urban areas, many of which face financial debt, unemployment and increasing poverty. According to Ned Hill, Professor of economic development at Cleveland State University,"The largest predictor of economic well-being in cities is the percent of college graduates."
He states that for cities to establish themselves, they need to attract educated people. The best educated city in 2004 was Seattle, Washington with over 50 percent of the adults having bachelor`s degrees. San Francisco, Raleigh, North Carolina, Washington D.C. and Austin, Texas followed closely behind.
