Another Near Miss, This Time In Florida

A Delta Airlines jet loaded with passengers was forced to abort landing just moments from touching down for a landing at the Palm Beach International Airport when it pulled up sharply to avoid a collision with another aircraft on the runway Sunday afternoon. The sudden maneuver startled the 96 passengers on Flight 1206 but the captain made a second approach and landed safely at 3:39 p.m.

Delta airlines spokesperson Pat Kennedy said that traffic control had cleared flight 1206 from Atlanta to West Palm Beach to land even though another aircraft was taking off at the same time on the same runway. No one was injured, Delta`s Kennedy explained in an interview with the Palm Beach Post.

No comment was available from the air traffic control tower on Sunday night. A supervisor for the Palm Beach County Department of Airports had no details on the near miss. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which runs the air traffic control operations at the control tower, reviews every near collision.
