Hurricane Wilma Approaches Florida

Hurricane Wilma downgraded to a Category 2 Saturday after pummeling the Yucatan Peninsula for nearly 72-hours and now has her sights set on the state of Florida. A Hurricane Watch is in effect along the West Coast of Florida from Longboat Key southward and along the East Coast of Florida from Titusville southward including Lake Okeechobee.

Hurricane warnings may be required for portions of this area later tonight. A tropical storm watch remains in effect along the West Coast of Florida from north of Longboat Key northward to Steinhatchee river and along the East Coast of Florida from north of Titusville northward to Fernandina Beach.

They are also reminding residents of Florida that although the storm might have sustained winds between 105 to 115 mph, gusts can be expected at times to reach 140-mph since the forward speed of the system will increase the force of the wind.
