Northeast floodwaters subside

Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney lifted the state of emergency for his state on Sunday, Romney said Massachusetts is slowly returning to normal. In New Hampshire, many of the 1,300 residents evacuated last weekend from Keene were able to return home on Saturday, but a 500-foot mudslide shut down part of Route 123. The southwest part of the state around Keene was particularly hard-hit a week ago.

The statewide state of emergency in New Jersey was lifted on Saturday evening. The state?s acting governor says the flooding situation is under control.

Mass. Gov. Romney?s statements came after about 1,000 citizens were evacuated from their homes on Saturday after heavy rain and floodwaters washed out bridges and roads. The governor said the state Emergency Management Agency was still monitoring conditions because high winds were expected.
