Hillary Clinton in Hall of Fame Induction

The National Women`s Hall of Fame in Seneca Falls, New York inducted ten women Saturday. Among this year`s honorees was Senator Hillary Clinton. More than 1,000 people turned out for the induction ceremony at New York Chiropractic College?s Athletic Center. Clinton, who was joined in Seneca Falls by her husband, former President Bill Clinton, says she was lucky to know the other living inductees: Betty Bumpers, Dr. Rita Rossi Colwell and Maya Lin.

Lin was honored for her architectural contributions. At age 21 she designed the National Vietnam War Memorial. Colwell was honored for her contribution to science and engineering, and Bumpers for raising the standard for child immunizations. The first known women`s rights convention was held in Seneca Falls in 1848. The hall, which opened in 1969, honors women who have made valuable contributions to society.

The new inductees join 207 others, including Sojourner Truth, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Oprah Winfrey. Honorees` usually credit supportive families and a strong will for their success. These women agree that the nation has come a long way since the 1846 declaration that started the women`s rights movement, but they say there`s still work to be done.
