New Orleans Drying Up

Most of the city of New Orleans, which was ravaged by Hurricane Katrina last month, is almost dry after being nearly 80-percent under water. Former residents and business owners of the city are now being allowed to return to their homes and offices.

The Army Corps of Engineers pumped much of the remaining floodwater out of the city on Saturday. Water was still being pumped out of the heavily flooded lower Ninth Ward. Officials expect the pumping to be completed by the end of the weekend.

Only a few problems have been reported by local police as tens of thousands of New Orleans residents returned home after having to find shelter elsewhere for the past month. About 1,500 police officers are patrolling the city to maintain a smooth transition home for the city`s residents.
