Terror strikes Bali again
Three bomb blasts ripped through restaurants on the resort island of Bali during the dinner rush Saturday night, killing at least 25 people and wounding more than 100 others, officials said. Two of the nearly simultaneous attacks, which some investigators blamed on a group linked to al Qaeda, targeted a long row of popular seafood eateries along the white sand beach of Jimbaran.
Police Maj. Gen. Ansyaad Mbai, a top Indonesian anti-terrorism official, said, "There are strong indications that the blast in Jimbaran was the work of a suicide bomber" - possibly more than one. The attack came almost exactly three years after terrorists bombed Kuta nightclubs on October 12, 2002 -- killing 202 people.
The White House issued a statement Saturday offering sympathy to victims, "their families and the people of Bali who have suffered meaningless violence before. We also express our solidarity with the government of Indonesia and convey our readiness to assist in any way."
