Navajo president returns from Tunisia
The Navajo Nation further established itself on the international stage, particularly in the field of communications, when President Joe Shirley Jr. recently spoke on behalf of 370 million indigenous people at the United Nation`s 2005 World Summit on the Information Society, according to several attendees.
"I didn`t know how big this conference was going to be," said George Hardeen, communications director for Shirley. "It went way better than I expected."
"This was the `Olympics of the United Nations,`" said Ervin Keeswood, Navajo Nation Council delegate from Hogback, who accompanied Shirley on the trip.
"It was probably the most historic thing to happen to the Navajo Nation in the last 150 years," added Dave Stephens, CEO of OnSat Inc., a company that provides wireless Internet and phone service for various chapters, educational institutions and residents on the Navajo Nation.
