U.N. Supports Iraq Elections
Seven people were killed Saturday in two suicide car bombs in Iraq, underscoring the UN envoy to Iraq Ashraf Qazi`s warning urging citizens to be cautious in the weeks before upcoming elections. The attacks show the divide that has taken hold of Iraq.
Speaking with journalists in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, Mr. Qazi said "We would hope for an improved security environment, because otherwise many people who may wish to participate would be deterred."
Earlier this month, U.S. forces discovered more than 150 Sunni captives, malnourished and showing signs of torture, in a secret government bunker.
However, Qazi urged Iraqis to vote in next months elections, which are expect to bring a large mass of Sunni Arabs, many of whom will vote for the first time.
