Connecticut Courts Evacuated Due to Bomb Threat
Connecticut`s court buildings were recently evacuated due to a bomb threat. Swift and thorough action was taken upon receiving the threat. The situation interrupted trials and sent judges, lawyers and others into the streets.
Police and court officials won`t say how many of the state`s 45 judicial court buildings were evacuated. Connecticut`s judicial branch has 83 facilities, 45 of which include courtrooms. U.S. Marshal John Bardelli says bomb squads were sweeping federal courts in Bridgeport, New Haven and Hartford, but that those courthouses remained open.
The threat was received by a staff member in Governor M. Jodi Rell`s office, according to gubernatorial spokesman David Dearborn. Local and state police bomb squads were notified about 11:30 a.m. that state police were requesting a sweep of all state courthouses.
