France Tributes Cultural Icon

France has become synonymous with culture and fine dining. France possesses some of the world?s most popular cultural treasures. Some of these national treasures include Brigitte Bardot and Roquefort cheese. However, France?s pride and joy are the postmodern philosophers.

Recently, the whole world got to see for their own eyes just how proud France is in its collection of deep thinkers. A few months a go Jacques Derrida, the father of the philosophical theory of deconstructionism, died. Derrida was praised in the press by some of the most notable public figures in France.

Leading the group was Jacques Chirac France?s President, who praised Mr. Derrida`s efforts "to rediscover the free movement that lies at the origin of all thought". The prime minister, two cabinet ministers, the mayor of Paris, and the head of the French Communist Party all recorded their reactions on the back of a special 10-page supplement published by the daily Le Monde to mark the philosopher`s passing.
