MySpace Used to Find Baby

MySpace.com is a popular social internet site, networking millions of people from around the globe in a bid to create an entire virtual community. MySpace users regularly post on the boards on a whole range of issues. Recently, however, a particularly moving post was seen on MySpace boards ? an appeal from a couple to adopt a baby girl. The couple from Michigan knew that the site was frequented mostly by young people and thus thought they might find a birthmother among the millions of teenage girls who use the site each day.

Sherry and Karl Dittmar decided to turn to MySpace after five years of trying to have a baby. Although the couple has a biological son and two adopted boys, they desperately want a daughter and are seeking a birthmother who would be willing to allow them to adopt her baby and ensure that the child has a good home in the U.S.A. Part of the Dittmar posting reads: ?We would be thrilled to welcome a baby girl to our home. We hope you feel that our family is the right family for your child?.

Over 1700 posters contacted the Dittmars regarding their posting and they have received a lead to a teenage mother-to-be who is still deliberating her options. It is unclear whether MySpace.com has ever been used to help prospective parents find an adopted baby, but, gathering by the number of responses to their request thus far, it could become a popular trend.
