Religion Progresses through Technology
It seems the internet is changing everything, from the way we communicate to the way we conduct business. The world is becoming a smaller place and more and more institutions are using the internet to compete on a global landscape. In recent years religious organizations have began utilizing technology to better communicate with their congregations. Religious websites for all religions can be found in cyberspace from radical Islam to Catholicism, from Hinduism to Buddhism. To be a member of a religious community no longer requires you to go to church or attend services.
Godcast1000.com, has launched a service designed to help Christians around the world "put God on your iPod," as they put it. The website boasts the largest free librery of Christian music, sermons, video and Bible study on the online. The website lists more than 500 digital audio files free for download straight to your computer or iPod. Jewish users can send messages to be put in the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem free of charge through the internet. Reading material on all religions are readily found online and now podcasts of religious services and sermons can be downloaded for use of the worshipper on the go.
The Rev. Shaun Olsen of the Family Worship Center in suburban Dallas, started "godcasting" last year in order to reach members of his congregation who travel. The church`s podcast includes the entire Sunday service. "We also have hundreds of missionaries attached to this church who are serving around the world in India, Pakistan and South Africa, and that enables them to listen to the service back home. We`ve gotten a great response, especially from the business community," He said.
