Google: The Most Popular Blog Search Online

It all began in October, Google placed a link to its blog search engine on Google`s main news page, causing a 168% surge in traffic, in a two eek period. At the time Technorati was the most popular blog search engine online ? no more. As blogs become a more important source of information for many internet users, search engines have adapted to meet users needs.

The blogosphere, the internet`s free access content arena, has become an increasingly important part on many internet users surfing ritual. Many blogs compete with mainstream media, such as, newspapers, radio and television, providing up-to-date news and analysis, sometimes way ahead of the competition. This information must be categorized and indexed by a search engine in order to allow users to find the relevant information, but the major search engines or even news search engines do not reindex blogs as often as would be optimal and for that reason blog search engines are needed.

One of the major concerns for the developers of blog search engines is the development of algorithms that know how to recognize relevant content, or more importantly, recognize spam and ignore it. Since the blogsphere is constantly being updated and changing. The blog search engine cannot recognize how many links are directed to a certain page until it becomes mature and by this time it is old news. In the meanwhile, well established search engines are tweaking there blog searches, improving their algorithms, adding blogs to their news search and general search making the blogsphere more relevant than even!
