Wikipedia Founder to Launch New Search Engine Project

The pubic information site, Wikipedia, is about to expand and offer a new search service for public. The site is now offering a user-edited online encyclopedia that is constantly growing and being refined by users. It is one of the largest public initiatives on the web, and one of the most visited website today. Jimmy Wales, the founder of Wikipedia, announced that he plans to develop a new search engine called either "Wikiasari" or "Wikia", and offer surfers a better way to search for online information.

Wales believes that all search engines on the market are "broken". The only true way of achieving such a task, according to Wales, is by involving the community. Using strange algorithms is what makes today search engines` less productive than they can really be, says Wales. It is broken for the same reason that proprietary software is always broken: lack of freedom, lack of community, lack of accountability (and) lack of transparency. Here, we will change all that," Wales wrote at his site.

The Wikipedia project started as a very small initiative and developed to one of the largest projects on the net. Wales is hoping that by involving many people in the new search project, he will be able to create the same affect and bring its new search engine to the same scale as Wikipedia. The Wikipedia Foundation of St. Petersburg Florida, which manages the site, said that they are not behind the search project, and that it is Wales` alone.
