First Threat Discovered in Windows Vista
Although Microsoft hailed its new operating system, Windows Vista, as its most secure system, a new flaw was recently discovered. The security hole might let hackers gain full control over the computers that run Windows Vista, but analysts believe that the risk is very low. The significance of the discovery is not the specific breach, but the fact that even the newest operating system is not immune against possible online attacks.
Microsoft said that it is currently investigating the new threat and says that if someone wants to exploit the breach in Windows Vista, he has to have prior access to the vulnerable computer. The first Vista threat was discovered by a Russia site that released information about a possible security breach in the new software. Security firms are also studying the new information, as Windows Vista is scheduled to run on most PCs around the world, the matter enjoys everyone`s attention.
"The bottom line is you couldn`t use vulnerability like this to write a worm or hack a Vista system remotely," said one of the tops researchers in a Finnish security firm. The threat does exist, but it cannot be used for the same attacks we saw take place on computers running Windows XP. The system is scheduled to hit stores at the end of January, and it`s believed that a simple software patch will fix the newly discovered threat. The security firm also said that this threat exists in other versions of Windows, and that Microsoft can easily fix it.
