Apple Opens New Front in War against Microsoft

Apple has called on its costumers not to upgrade to Microsoft`s new Vista operating system, for fear that the new system may not properly work with ITunes. ITunes is a program developed by apple and is used by IPod owners to organize and manage their music. Although Apple`s current version of ITunes, 7.0.2, works on Vista, Apple recommended IPod users wait for the next ITunes upgrade, which is expected to be released in a number of weeks.
Apple has reported several problems that may occur when ITunes is run on Vista. For example, there are compatibility issues for movies purchased in ITunes stores and animation problems with CD covers. Another problem reported , effects the IPod`s "Enable Disk Use" feature, which allows users to use their IPod as a portable drive. In addition, Vista`s "Safely Remove Hardware" feature could completely destroy the IPod`s software. Apple recommends users use the "Eject IPod" feature, which exists in the IPod software. ?We are also committed to ensuring that all partners, including Apple, receive all the resources they need to ensure that their applications work with Windows Vista,? a Microsoft spokesperson commented. Adding that costumers needn`t delay upgrading to Vista for these reasons.
In addition to the technical disagreements, Apple has been on a marketing offensive, mocking Microsoft and its new operating system. Apple`s now classic commercials, in which two characters portraying a PC and a Mac are depicted, have gotten Microsoft chairman Bill Gates to counter with his own attack against the "lies" in the commercial series, challenging Apple`s integrity.
