No More Customer Service Outsourcing at AT&T
According to AT&T`s latest statement, 2,000 new unionized jobs will be created at its U.S. operations and the use of low-wage foreign call centers for customers support will be eliminated. The AT&T spokesman says: "We were able to create these jobs at competitive salaries. The positions will pay $30,000 per year plus benefits".
The AT&T is being applied in collaboration with the Communications Workers of America, which represents telecom workers at the company. AT&T will start adding the positions in the year of 2007, though it is not known yet where the workers will be placed. CWA officials are happy with the move. CWA executive VP Jeff Rechenbach said: "Reversing the flow of work from contractors back to our bargaining units is a terrific achievement".
Although AT&T insists the decision was made to send back the jobs after successfully bargaining "competitive" wages with the CWA, it is possible that customers` pressure to improve service have been a factor as well. Users of AT&T`s home DSL service are often not satisfied with the company and make this feeling public on online forums and blogs.
