9/11 ? Are We Cyber-Safe?
On September 11 it will be the five-year anniversary of the notorious terrorist attack. The important question rising is whether the United States are safe today. A new survey shows that business executives are not at all certain that the U.S. government has done enough to secure its virtual infrastructure.
The survey, released by the security vendor nCircle,l says that while 86 percent of IT executives believe their organizations are satisfactorily safe from cyberterror attacks, 85 percent of them don`t think U.S. government agencies are adequately prepared for such assaults. The study is based on an August poll of 395 IT executives.
The surveyed are extremely confident in their own defensive abilities and enormously skeptical of the government`s. They may, however, be overestimating their own capabilities. As nCircle CEO Abe Kleinfeld suggests, IT executives don`t yet have many reliable ways to measure how prepared they are for network attacks launched by possible terrorists, mainly because they haven`t really happened yet.
