BBC Ad Starring Elvis Hugely Popular on the Internet
When BBC created an advertisement for its Radio 2, it didn?t dream that the ad would become so popular throughout the world, thanks to the internet. The BBC ad features an all-star cast of Elvis Presley, Stevie Wonder and Kevin Moon, among others. Using footage from various sources such as DVD?s, YouTube and the BBC?s huge archival library, the ad shows Elvis introducing a super-band spanning several generations. All the footage was merged into the original footage of the King?s hugely popular show, ?Aloha from Hawaii?.
The advertisement has spread like wildfire across the internet. It enjoys huge popularity on a number of Elvis Presley fan sites and it is estimated that it has been viewed more than 50,000 times through YouTube. The image of Elvis Presley always seems to be able to bridge generational gaps, as he was loved by young and old during his lifetime and beyond it. This seems to be the most alluring feature of the new BBC ad, especially since it also stars other popular artists.
BBC?s Head of Marketing was thrilled with the response to her company?s advertisement. She admitted that no past promotional trailer had generated such enormous interest and mentioned that the company had been receiving emails from around the world congratulating them on the ad and asking when it would be next broadcast so that they could view it for themselves on television.
